KATHARINEN RUINE – OPEN-AIR
First show of the tour!
Must have blown the roof off 3 years ago when we played, because there is still no ceiling!!!!
Our tour started in Nuernberg, Germany. We played at the old woman’s cloister, Katharinenruine, which is such a spectacular setting. Thank you Bing-Hong Hsiao for your fabulous pictures!

Lunz am See, Austria
We played on a floating stage with the mountains in the background. So beautiful! crisp Austrian mountain air… -and a cool swim during the day. What a treat… makes the overnight drives worthwhile!
This is the first time we actually got to play ON?IN the lake at Lunz!!!!! The past years it rained every time, so we had to play an alternate venue inside…

warming up at fortress Ehrenbreitstein in Koblenz, Germany
Look at this beautiful view from the fortress Ehrenbreitstein
high above Koblenz in Germany!!!!
Where the Rhine and the Mosel meet …
Here, you can actually see the different colors of the two river’s waters coming together!
The sky in Koblenz is ablaze tonight!
This sunset is for Jean!

Early in the morning we drove to Cologne to board a plane for London. We were scheduled to play at WOMAD. Our time there was way too short! But still I had some unexpected surprises!!!
Touring Life! Traveled some crazy distances today, starting off in Koblenz, Germany, then on to WOMAD in Charlton Park, England, and a little while a go we arrived in Merano, Italy. Have to be up in a couple of hours for the next engagement though, so I’d better get some rest!

Up at 6000 feet altitude by cable car
The weather forecast for today is fabulous!
And as they say up on Gompm Alm,
“There is no bad weather, just bad clothing!”
Arriving at Gompm Alm on Hirzer mountain
After being in motion for the past 5 days, we are finally in one place for a couple of nights. Today’s gig was up on Gompm Alm with magnificent views. What a perfect place of beauty to recharge and catch you up on the tour.
When we drove up the curvy skinny mountain road to Gompm Alm, we saw the para-gliders flying high in the sky… I think Uli (tour manager) and Joe Daley (Sousaphone) are going to do this today, -DAY OFF!!!!! weather permitting…. I would too, if my ankle was in better shape…… still recovering from a torn ligament.
So this is living the dream!
We’ve been on the road for 5 days. Our tour has taken us through Germany, Austria to WOMAD in the UK and now to Italy, a distance of 3750km which we have done by bus, van and plane. Tonight we can enjoy our first comfortable hotel bed – yeah!
July 28, 2014
It’s so enjoyable to have a day off!!!
Fun to watch Joe and Uli paragliding today!
Sure wish I could have been up there with them, but didn’t want to risk reinjuring my ankle. Next time …
Then I walked down hill to the center of Merano, across the river… Bought some provisions… And went out to dinner with Joe, Uli, Wade, and Erik. Steve wandered in later.
Now it is thundering and lightening with a mellow rain, -and— GOODNIGHT!

CAMBRIDGE FOLK FESTIVAL
Last night we played to a full, hot, sweaty and happy house in our Record Label, JARO’s home town of Bremen. It’s only 4am, and we are already up again. Leaving in 15 minutes to play at the 50th anniversary of the Cambridge Folk Festival. Then we zip back to Munich, to hop on a van to Innsbruck, to play a LIVE TV Recording at Die Bäckerei for our final night of this tour.
Cambridge Folk Fest – Easy Going and totally Friendly! – a shame to leave so soon…
These “In and Out” gigs are so short…. bumped into Dennis Lichtman…
photos later at next hotel, in another country!!!!!
August 2, 2014
woke up, and with bleary eyeballs, opened my curtains, and WOW
-a whole Mountain Range appeared!!!!
Die Bäckerei – Live TV Performance
The building used to be a Bakery, and is now used as a community arts events place. We had a great crew today, and the show was a fun mix of cultures and instruments.
Our talented Host, Herbert Pixner, also plays tuba!!!
The fine Alpen Duo of Kriner and Hornsteiner
beautiful harmonies and lederhosen too!
It’s 4 am in the morning here in Innsbruck
haven’t had sleep for daze!!!
sleep? what’s that????
pulling out of Innsbruck at 4:45am, heading to Zürich to the airport…
